do it, dad; travolta's your bitch

Ridiculous observation made, by me, this morning:

So.  I’m watching Buffy episode 3ABB14, “Bad Girls,” with commentary from writer Doug Petrie.  At one point, he spoke about how this episode showed the “growing lesbian subtext” between Buffy and Faith, which he really didn’t need to point out, because, hello, obviously.  After kicking some demon ass down in the sewers, the Slayers bond over the carnage:

Faith:     Tell me you don’t get off on this.

Buffy:     Didn’t suck…

You might recognize Buffy’s response from another bit of celluloid history rife with lesbian subtext , as it is Nomi Malone’s signature phrase.

Oh, I am sad for knowing this.

Oh, you ARE sad for knowing this. And even more sad for admitting that you knew this.

oh, whatever, avi, showgirls is the greatest movie of all time. how can you go wrong with gina gershon's boobs?

Well, that's a good point. I think Agent Dale Cooper's hair negates the good of Gina Gershon's boobs, though.

Avi...dont ever mention Dale Cooper in reference to that horrible movie again! The two characters are complete opposites. Agent Cooper being the most awesome, irresistable, intelligent man ever...while whatever his grimy, low life, worst acting in a pool sex scence ever character was in showgirls. Although that was so bad it was funny...her overacting more than his underacting...

Sorry, Kathy--I just don't know his real name. Next time, I will call him "Paul Muad'dib."

You might recognize Buffy's response from another bit of celluloid history rife with lesbian subtext , as it is Nomi Malone's signature phrase. Given that Joe Esterhaus is incapable of being subtle, I think you might just call that "lesbian text". It is, however, fantastic no matter how you slice it.

A point well made, Jessica. I wrestled with that a bit, but I ended up sticking with "subtext" because really, isn't "lesbian subtext" a nifty phrase?
